BAN LIVE EXPORT : www.banliveexport.com
Ban Live Export rallies took place around Australia on Sunday August 14. On August 18, the Government voted to continue Live Exports... and so the campaign against animal cruelty continues...
THINGS EVERY AUSTRALIAN NEEDS TO KNOW...
BAN LIVE EXPORT UPDATE. Letters of protest can be sent via the following mediums:
FOUR CORNERS EXPOSE` - MAY 30 The Four Corners program, A Bloody Business, can be viewed at this link.
RELIGIOUS FARCE - JUNE 02 The slaughter of Australian animals is in breach of many guidelines for religious slaughter. The Halal Certification Authority in Australia condemns the overseas slaughter. To read their formal statement : Click here.
MLA CENSORSHIP - JUNE 08 "As a researcher at the University of Queensland’s Centre for Animal Welfare and Ethics, I have received funding from both the MLA and LiveCorp... The industry body determines the type of work that is conducted, who does the research, how it is conducted and how it is reported... Under contracts with MLA or LiveCorp, researchers working for them cannot release any information about the project to anybody without the permission of industry representatives. In practice that means that reports are drafted by the researchers and edited by the industry body before release." Clive Phillips - Professor, School of Animal Welfare and Ethics at University of Queensland You can read his article here: Animal exports: how the industry controls research to shut down debate
MORE LIES FROM THE MLA - JUNE 15 "Tony Ryan has worked in the cattle industry up north. He also studied and wrote about the Top End cattle and buffalo industries, and convened the Buffalo Producers Cooperative in the NT, where he lived for 25 years. Attached is a list of facts and information about the industry. Note particularly the paragraphs about jobs. The MLA are outright liars. Many of us knew this all along but the Right Wing pollies and the few who profit from Live Export are feeding us fear spin, and the misinformed public are eating it up. The fact is that Live Animal Export is doing Australians out of thousands of jobs." The document prepared by the Ryan Institute of Evidential Demographics (RIED), can be viewed at this link.
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION - JUNE 18 Thank you to all who stood up and made their voices heard during the first National Day of Action.
ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENT - JUNE 20 While animal advocates receive death threats from the pro-live export extremists, MPs Andrew Wilkie, Nick Xenophon and the Greens introduce bills to Parliament which will lead to a vote on the issue. During the formailities of introducing the Independant's Live Animal Export Restriction and Prohibition Bill 2011, Wilkie described the MLA as "an irresponsible, incompetent, dishonest and uncaring bunch of cowboys". His address to Parliament can be read at this link.
VIRTUAL PROTEST - JUNE 21
The Ban Live Export Campaign launches the Virtual Protest. Click here to add your video message.
ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENT - JULY 4 Andrew Wilkie's second speech condemning the trade can be read at this link.
LIVE EXPORT TRADE RESUMES - JULY 7 Government announces that the trade with Indonesia can resume.
PROTESTS CONTINUE AND THE LABOR PARTY IS DIVIDED - JULY 8 Within 24 hours of the decision to allow trade to resume, Labor Party members are divided.
THE BLACK SPURS DONATE SONG TO THE CAMPAIGN - AUGUST 8 Sydney-based country-rock band The Black Spurs record a song in support of the Ban Live Export campaign and donate all proceeds from iTunes sales to Animals Australia. You can listen to the song and watch the video clip on You Tube. The song can be purchased for $1.69 directly from iTunes.
MORE LIES FROM LIVE TRADE SUPPORTERS - AUGUST 10 In a bizarre attempt to discredit animal cruelty investigators, claims have been made that Lyn White and her team paid bribery money to slaughtermen in Indonesia, in return for exaggerated footage of animal abuse. Liberal Senator Chris Back can be seen on Ten News video, making direct accusations to Ms White during a senate enquiry.
SECOND NATIONAL BAN LIVE EXPORT RALLY - AUGUST 14 On Sunday August 14, a second rally took place in capital cities around Australia. An estimated 20,000 people, (from urban and rural areas), gathered in capital cities around Australia to show their support for a ban on the live export trade.
PARLIAMENT VOTES AGAINST THE BILLS TO BAN LIVE EXPORT - AUGUST 18 On Thursday August 18 the Australian government voted against the bills to end live animal export. The Ban Live Export campaign will definitely not be over until the cruelty stops...
Eyes stabbed, tails broken, tendons slashed, sadistic beatings... our tax dollars are subsidising this trade.
